to put it simply, a sparkledog, also called a sparklefur is a (usually anthropomorphized) animal with unnatural colours or patterns, and often human accesories and hair, there are many different subcategories of sparkledog but the main one that ive found is gloomdog which is typically more styled afer the emo subculture :3 (sorry it felt too formal so i had to throw a :3 in there)

theres no really concrete date that sparkledogs originated, or even when the term originated, however the first mentions i can find officially are from around 2009 but i assume the term probably originated earlier, and if not sparkledogs as a species sure did, even if they werent really called that. theyve been around since at least 2005 (and most likely earlier thats just the oldest sparkledog art ive found recently x3) even if they were only getting more popular around the late 2000s to early 2010s. anyways the term mostly originated with people being huge dicks to kids that wanted to draw funny animals, and so it was mainly used derogatorily by weird adults who liked making fun of children, though lots of people did reclaim it at the time, and nowadays it is mostly used more as a neutral descriptor and sparkledogs are looked back upon with of nostalgia and happiness for a lot of people :)
